In order to achieve our mission, JOMELOS Save Life Organization requests from institutions and individuals monetary or in-kind donations. Ghanaian children and youth need your support to achieve education, health and an improved quality of life. Objectives JSLO wants to mobilize all forms of Resource - cash, books, clothing, and teaching materials, etc. - to support NEEDY children to have access to quality basic education. We seek Sponsorship and support from individuals, NGO’s, churches and other organizations to enable more than 100 children to have a proper basic education. On a regular basis or with a one – time donation you can help us leading these kids to school! With this program you don’t just help one child, but you are part of a much greater picture: you contribute to the well – being of more than 100 children! More than 100 children are being sponsored by JOMELOS to go to school. We selected these children, who are intelligent but needy, and who are willing to go to school, but were not able to do so because of the school costs. JOMELOS wants to give these children a uniform, school books and other materials, together with the payment of their school fees. Regularly JOMELOS – team members visit the schools, for follow – up of the children, and their teachers. We are looking for people who want to sponsor this project. The total school costs of 150 children, every year, amount to 2000euro. In the Central Region Proces of accessing funds Everybody who is in need of basic education can apply for a Sponsorship. By interviews with the child and his parents, JOMELOS will investigate whether the child is NEEDY, INTELLIGENT and MOTIVATED for proper education. JOMELOS will make an assessment, based on the investigations of the personal situation of the applier. Within the committee will be decided whether the child satisfies the conditions, and means are available to be considered for Sponsorship. Areas the fund supports School fees - Educational materials – Uniforms - Basic food (especially lunches) Motivation The stories of 2 children, who were the initial first to be sponsored. 1. Stephen Tawaih Stephen Tawaih, An 11 years old boy, has been abused by his family. At the age of 5, he started working with his four uncles as a helper on a small fishing boat (Canoe) owned by one family member in Komenda, near Cape Coast. The father of the boy has nine (9) children and none of them have been to school, due to poverty in the family. One day, Stephen Tawaih (also known as Egya Tawaih) went fishing with the uncles as usually, but unfortunate for the poor boy, a horrible accident happened to him. The oil they were using for the light (hanging on top of the canoe) started burning and it came on top of the boy. He was severely burnt; and because they could not afford the medical bills, they boy was abandoned. At the moment JSLO and WAJU are investigating the case. 2. Charity Boafo She is a 10 year old girl, Primary 4 pupil, coming from a small town near Cape Coast. She lost her father at the age of 2, And the mother is sick with Elephantiasis. Because the mother can not go out to work, the poor little girl need to work for her daily bread or stay with someone. The teacher who brought her to our office says that she goes to school with only 500.00 cedis (0.05 Euro/Dollar) daily, and sometimes 50.00 cedis (0.005 Euro/Dollar). Common areas of concern Some of the common areas of concern, as identified by the communities include: 1. The majority of children do not attend school, due to fees and distance to school 2. Child labour, i.e. farming 3. No healthcare facilities 4. High teen pregnancy and low birth spacing 5. Malnourished children 6. No potable drinking water 7. No sanitation facilities 8. Lack of adequate clothing and footwear
